The Aero Club of Washington announced on August 1, 2024 that its Board of Directors has established a Person of the Year Award and will bestow the 2024 honor to the primary authors of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 – Representatives Sam Graves (R-MO) and Rick Larsen (D-WA) (the Chairman and Ranking Member, respectively, of the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation and Infrastructure Committee), and Senators Maria Cantwell (D-MO) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) (the Chair and Ranking Member, respectively, of the U.S. Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee). The Aero Club Foundation of Washington is pleased to announce that it will award $5,000 scholarships to 10 Washington, D.C. area students who demonstrate a passion for aviation with the intent to pursue an education and career in aerospace. The Foundation looks forward to recognizing each scholarship recipient at the Aero Club of Washington’s Breakfast on July 31, 2024 at the Westin Washington D.C. Downtown Hotel. On June 17, 2024 the National Aeronautic Association announced that former Spirit Airlines President & CEO, Ben Baldanza, was selected as the recipient of the 2024 Wright Brothers Memorial Trophy for “… his 38 years of dedicated service to the U.S. airline industry and his visionary leadership in introducing the ultra-low-cost model to the United States, which has expanded access to air travel to tens-of-millions of Americans.”
Baldanza will be presented with the Wright Trophy at the Aero Club of Washington’s 76th Annual Wright Memorial Dinner on December 13, 2024 in Washington, DC.
